In a                Press Conference held on 14thJuly, 2014, the                Minister for Foreign Affairs and International                Co-operation, Hon. Bernard Membe, on behalf of the                Government of the United Republic of Tanzania called on                Israel and Hamas to ceasefire immediately, adding that The                United Nations Security Council should step in to restore                harmony in the Middle East.
                    The                Government of the United Republic of Tanzania wishes to                reiterate this position and further condemns the ongoing                killings of innocent civilians among them elderly, women                and children in Gaza.
                    The                Government of the United Republic of Tanzania calls upon                the International Community to continue supporting                diplomatic efforts to end the conflict peacefully.  Core                to the solution of this conflict is availing the people of                Palestine the right to self-determination through the                establishment of an independent Palestinian state. 
                    The                Government of the United Republic of Tanzania therefore                maintains its support to the two-state solution with                Palestine and Israel co-existing in harmony and ensuring                security of the State of Israel.
